Chu-Bra!!
Based on the manga by Yumi Nakata, decided to check out “Chu-Bra!!” since it looked like it might be an entertaining ecchi comedy.
Production values were average, the animation was sufficiently good and the soundtrack was ok. Judging by the first episode, “Chu-Bra!!” is a typical school setting series about an ostracized student who is ultimately able to befriend some fellow students against all adversity.

“Chu-Bra!!” however adds the token element of making the main character an underwear maniac, giving rise to plenty of ecchi fanservice scenes.
Even Minori Chihara’s voice work as Nayu Hayama isn’t enough to detract from the fact that such blatant underwear fetish fanservice cannot carry a series by itself and personally didn’t feel like it really fit well in this comedy school context with characters that age group.
While “Chu-Bra!” didn’t particularly disappoint, don’t think I’ll be following this series and recommend it only to those looking for such ecchi fanservice.

Pointless fan-services isn’t my idea of a good fan-service

What i like about panties and underwear it’s the unexpected, the surprise, the mystery.
Seeing the pantie of a character you would never imagine to see is a true ecchi experience
So this anime will never be in my watch list.
I was surprised when I watched this because I was expecting only fan service. Not only did I get it, but I got some story out of it too. The comedy and service mixed well. I actually watched the pre-release Ladies vs Butlers hoping for a story, but got nothing BUT fan service. That I couldn’t stomach. Chu-Bra on the other hand felt similar to Kimi ni Todoke because of the ostracized student. But I do feel a bit disturbed that the characters are all very young… I’ll give it a second episode showing, at least.
@Katsura-chan
Understand what you mean, by focusing on them, “Chu-Bra!!” is quite explicit and does take a way most of the surprise and suspense.
@lightningsabre
That’s true, perhaps I should have added that in my preview, I do like it better than “Ladies versus Butlers” as the ecchi here is still more tasteful and has more of a story. Just can’t help but feel it would have been better to use characters in a different age setting, older.
I downloaded this first episode and… I won’t put it on my watchlist =_=; I just don’t like the art and too much pointless fanservices that I can’t handle lol
I thought the program was cute and intend to watch this. Yes, the kids are young, but I don’t think that there is going to be situations where that is a ‘real’, as opposed to cultural bias problem. My wife watched this with me and commented that the underwear advice given is quite accurate. So, sneaking in some useful information might indirectly help out some real middle-schoolers (given it’s their parents watching as opposed to them sneaking a peek). My friends daughter is of middle-school age and has become quite shy vis-a-vis the topic of undergarments, whereas just a couple years ago, his problem was keeping her in them
.
If you’re going to do a series with underwear as a main focus, I suspect it would be rather tough to avoid ‘fanservice’. I don’t think in this case it’s as much fanservice as integral to the story.
@CHMakoto
Well I hadn’t thought of it that way, though will admit the series no doubt has it merits and is nowhere near as bad as say “Queen’s Blade” in terms of fanservice or doubtful ecchi scenes. But still, have little interest for middle-schooler underwear advice. ^^;;
I really have nothing against Panties Fetish, I mean come on, it’s ecchi! Are you surprised!? XD
But i do think i will watch this series after im done with what i am watching right now.
There is actually a plot… Anyone who wont watch it is just following the crowd
