The denial of Kinoshita Hideyoshi

Only picked up a few new series this winter anime season compared to previous seasons, but one series which has proven much better than anticipated and has been absolutely hilarious so far is “Baka To Test To Shoukanjuu”.

It never fails to entice me with the irresistibly cute Kinoshita Hideyoshi. Clearly put forth as the token trap character, all his classmates see and treat him as a girl, fanservice scenes of Hideyoshi in fetish female attire like maid costumes or bearing skin are aplenty.

Where this series differs and is more original compared to similar shows featuring a trap character like “Maria†Holic” or “Kämpfer”, is that even though effeminate, Hideyoshi clearly states he is male. Nonetheless, Hideyoshi is still the victim of being dressed up in women’s clothing and being taken for a girl.

Of course, this makes the trap all the more appealing! Unable to withstand such cuteness, seeing the lovely Hideyoshi in cheerleader outfit, cheongsam or just making a cute pose is sure to cause a lethal explosive bloodnose.

This leads to the peculiar, but not unheard of case of ‘trap denial’, where one just cannot fathom such a character to be anything else but a cute girl and rather lets themselves be absorbed into said denial.

Ignorance can be bliss in such cases! For if that ignorance or denial were one day to be shattered by the harshness of reality surely it would be mentally scarring.

As a closing note, the past episode’s confession scene between Yoshii and Hideyoshi could only have as true outcome Hideyoshi casting aside the misguided Yoshii and rather opt to give her love to a better suitor.

Of course yours truly does not think of Hideyoshi in such ways and most certainly is not deeply entrenched in denial.
