Flower macro photos

After showing photos of some red roses taken with the macro zoom setting of the Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens I recently bought, thought to show a few flower photos taken with a full fledged macro lens, the EF 100mm f/2.8 macro USM lens.

As you can see, the detail of the flower’s stigma and stamens that a macro lens captures is stunning, love seeing such sharp details which I can’t discern with the naked eye.

Though this shot is a bit dark to my taste but it was the best I could accomplish without directing so much light on the flower that the reflection on the white petals would drown everything out.

From lots of bokeh in the previous shot, stopped down to a smaller aperture to have more of the rose sharply in detail.

Also wanted to capture some of the details on the leaves as well, notice the serrated edges and texture.

Had taken these photos of a flower arrangement some time ago already in fact, but hadn’t uploaded any of the resulting images yet.

No doubt often unnoticed or forgotten, always adore snapping photos of the smaller flowers or greenery in such arrangement sets, like these images illustrate.

Not only love the density and alternation of the different green color shades but they’re prime candidates for some playful bokeh shots and getting up close with the macro lens.

Still have a nice white orchid plant in full bloom around, will see if I can assemble better lighting with the led lights I bought yesterday and perhaps use a black background to offset against the white flowers to make some photos of it soon.

You can see more photography here or on my Flickr photostream.

Wow, those are amazing high quality photographs. They’re beautiful. I love those last few shots especially; it’s both a gorgeous and different take on flowers as we usually see them.

    Thanks. ^^

Well only invest in a macro lens if you really want to explore catching subjects (like flowers) in such detail, since it does involve a learning curve (which I have yet to master). Some normal lenses might enable you to get close enough for what you desire/are looking for.

    Merci~

Glad to hear that, one of the tings I always try to do with the macro lens is capture things you don’t usually see well with the naked eye.
