Crush on Kotori-chan
From being an excellent comedy “Working!!” evolved into an epic love story, the romantic tale of the pure love a young maiden feels for the one she earnestly admires. The love Taneshima Poplar has for Kotori-chan!
Who can honestly deny not feeling the same? Do we not all admire the tall, slender and shapely Kotori-chan, looking irresistibly cute in her waitress uniform yet emanating a definite empowered aura?

ことりちゃん…やっぱり素敵!
How dare Takanashi refuse Poplar’s plea to embrace the true nature by which he should live, not as some dime in a dozen student, but as the lovely waitress Kotori-chan?! A yuri centric arc between Poplar and Kotori-chan would be simply beautiful.
However, if Poplar and Kotori-chan become lovers, what of Inami? Surely we cannot allow the poor girl to be rejected, but if she were to date Kotori-chan this would lead to a love triangle!
Nonetheless I believe this could still lead to a happy end, for aren’t we all a bit like Poplar, smitten on lovely Kotori-chan?

For more serious thoughts after above silliness, the final episodes of “Working!!” were quite hilarious!
Full with priceless scenes like Nazuna’s reaction to her brother’s planned date with Inami, the date itself with all its trap shenanigans or Maya throwing a fit,…
Also adored Poplar’s cute confession to wanting to see more of Kotori-chan, begging Takanashi to cross-dress. Though the whole cross-dressing plot only works this good thanks to how well Takanashi/Kotori can play off against Poplar and Inami, due to Poplar’s minute height and the Inami’s androphobia.
“Working!!” should really have focused on being a trap comedy far earlier during its run, that way we would have gotten to fawn over Kotori-chan every single episode!

Quite a shame the series is already over though, wanted to see more of this eclectic gathering of oddball characters like Poplar, Yachiyo, Nazuna, Yamada, Inami,…
We definitely did not get to see enough of Matsumoto Maya, who only had some significant screentime in the last episode. Did enjoy the fact that she threw such a fit about the restaurant staff being comprised of nothing but strange people, leading the bespectacled waitress to become obsessed with wanting to be plain.
“Working!!” needs a second season, surely the manga must still have material enough to see another series air someday? Or how about a Kotori-chan OVA, or a spin-off…?

*coughs* Working currently has eight volumes worth of material. This season went through four volumes’ worth of selected Chapters. Ergo, there’s 4 volumes of material left if the studio wants to make a sequel…
@Myssa Rei
Thanks for the info. Am glad to hear that. Definitely hoping for a second season then! ^^
But one important question remains… are those 4 volumes full of Kotori-chan trap goodness? >_>
Need to ask Karice for specifics, but apparently we get some of the following:
- Expansion on Jun x Yachiyo x Kyouko.
- A closer view on Yamada’s quirks.
- Hints on how DANGEROUS Souma could be.
All this on top of more Inami and Souta.
@Myssa Rei
Sounds nice, although it seems to follow one pattern which also struck me from the anime series. Even though she’s the main character in the opening episode, poor Poplar quickly takes a backseat compared to the other characters. Kind of a shame, that.
Well, I did mention that they skipped out on some of the earlier chapters as well. I can’t say for sure that Poplar DOESN’T have chapters dedicated solely to her in the latter volumes, as the English-translated chapters only go up to Volume 2; for that you need to ask the folk in Japan (I mentioned Karice67, who is apparently in Okinawa or thereabouts).
Well, it’s better it wasn’t one.
Since it would be somehow… strange.
Why should a boy crossdress to work in a restaurant as a part timer?
This wouldn’t make any sense. What we saw was cool. But not 13 episodes long.
I must be the only one, not fond of her..he..
@GREW
Why the series would simply be more awesome if it was a full blown trap series like “Maria†Holic”. All for the greater good!
@Fabrice
Am not especially fond of Takanashi either, but Kotori-chan is <3
