Last Exile ~Fam the Silver Wing~
Having aired back in 2003, still fondly recall the original “Last Exile” series which was a refreshing experience, not only due to its character art style based on Range Murata’s unique designs but the different atmosphere of the show.
Almost a decade after the original, the same creative team returns to work on “ラストエグザイル~銀翼のファム~” with character designer Range Murata, series director Chigira Koichi, animation studio Gonzo and music composition by Kuroishi Hitomi.

The first episode was quite good, so am confident that “Last Exile ~Fam the Silver Wing~“ could become as great as the original of which it mimicked the unique atmosphere and styling well.
The animation was good and the mix between the 2D characters and 3D airships was flawless (save for a single scene). Was surprised to hear Toyosaki Aki voice the bubbly pilot Fam, whose personality is the polar opposite of the original series lead character Claus. Toyosaki Aki also voiced Yui from “K-ON!” and Chitose in last season’s “Yuru Yuri”.
Fam’s friend Giselle is voiced by Yuuki Aoi who previously voiced Tooru in “A Channel”, Victorique in “Gosick” and Madoka in “Puella Magi Madoka Magica”. Kayano Ai who voices Milia is also performing as Inori in this season’s “Guilty Crown”.

In addition to a new show, I think I’m ready too for another round of Last Exile design works from Murata. I bought a bunch of the line drawing collections last time around.
@super rats
True, his designs are so unique, including the typical character styling he uses. Not too sure about the vespa vanship though, seems a bit small compared to the vanships we saw in the original.
I’m definitely glad I took a chance on this version of Last Exile. I hope it continues to be good!
That was a very good first start for this show.
I was quite impressed by the animation quality, it looked excellent.
haha and Dio is back
@Justin
The original was great and with most of the same creative team back working on this one, I’m sure it will. ^^
@wieselhead
This season has several series with remarkably good animation. Somehow Dio looks younger and more innocent this time round, so makes me wonder if it’s really the same Dio. ^^;;
Dudes! I freakin love last exile! yeah I also got doubts on Dio. I placed it somewhere in one of my post. http://subarashikun.wordpress.com/2011/10/19/rasuto-eguzairu/ anyways Like I think a lot of twists and connections from season1 will surely pop out in the later episodes.
So glad to have Last Exile back, as well as the return of Dio. I think the voice actors/actresses do a great job and the animation is top notch once again. This was one of my most anticipated shows of the season, I just hope it lives up to the first. Can’t wait to see how things develop this time around!
Am also following this show although I’m wondering how long after Last Exile this takes place since Dio appears relatively unchanged @_@?
@Subarashikun
Am not too sure about Dio either, guess we’ll have to wait and see.
@Persocom
Am quite curious what we’ll get to see of Al and Claus, if anything. The ending animation does seem to show us a flash of Al.
@Devastator001
If anything Dio looks younger to me so that is puzzling.
P.S. Someone was nice enough to try translating the Travelers from the Hourglass manga, which bridges the first Last Exile with Fam. The first one just came up here: http://www.batoto.com/read/_/43414/last-exile-sunadokei-no-tabibito_v1
Yep, that’s Fam and Giselle right there at the end. Also this confirms that Prester’s Exile literally WAS the LAST Exile to come back to Earth (so far). Fitting.
@Myssa
Oh wow, that puts a lot of things in perspective already! Very curious how we’ll see that come into play into the anime. ^^
Last Exile is actually one of my most anticipated anime of the season. And so glad the anime looks really sharp! Can’t wait until I get the time.
@Yi
The implied yuri vibe between Fam & Millia in the latest episode was quite fun!
