Detolf with dioder

Due to my anime figure collection recently having increased by no less than six figures after various pre-orders coming in and getting a few figures at the FACTS convention, quite acutely ran out of room to properly display them all.

With my desk becoming a cluttered mess of figures, even having to put some in front of the computer monitors, it was time to remedy that situation.

So headed to the nearby Ikea to purchase a Detolf display cabinet and a set of Dioder led lights.

The Detolf glass cabinet is quite renowned in the otaku and anime figure collector community for being an ideal display cabinet with a very affordable price tag, its modest dimensions also meant it would fit fine in my office space. Got some Dioder led lights as well to illuminate the figures.

After Kanade and Yukino arrived earlier this week, promised to write a review including a full photoshoot of these two lovely figures by Good Smile Company. So without further ado, here it is.

The Sakurai twin sisters Yukino and Kanade are the lead characters of the original net anime “Candy☆Boy”, which while it was but a brief series and not highly commercialized, nonetheless represents one of the better yuri series to date.

Was overjoyed when Good Smile Company announced earlier this year they would be making “Candy☆Boy” figures and didn’t hesitate to pre-order them as soon as possible.

Kanade and Yukino are standard 1/8 scale PVC figures and while not as elaborate or ornate as some of Good Smile Company’s other recent releases, they still boast terrific details, painting and finishing.

Candy☆Boy Kanade and Yukino arrived

While I looked forward to receiving the Saber Lily and Yoko Littner figures, was more anxious for Good Smile Company’s release of Kanade and Yukino from “Candy☆Boy”.

Although their initial release date was planned for September, it got pushed back to late October and today they finally arrived on my doorstep after Hobby Link Japan shipped them out to me last week.

Compared to Saber Lily or Yoko these 1/8 scale figures seem smaller for they are more modest, less elaborate, no doubt because the lovely Sakurai sisters are sculpted in their school uniforms, exactly how they appeared in the anime.

Of course, as always with Good Smile Company the sculpt, painting and finishing is absolutely perfect with great attention for all the small details in the girls’ uniforms, hairpins, jewelry. Kanade’s watch even has the display image printed on.

One of the most anticipated figure releases this year that appears on every otaku’s wish list, even if they aren’t fans of “Fate/stay night”, is Good Smile Company’s Saber Lily ‘Distant Avalon’ figure.

Was quite anxious when many otaku comrades already received their Saber Lily figures and my order from Hobby Link Japan still showed her as not yet released. Luckily she shipped out soon after and when I came home this evening was nicely surprised to see she had arrived!

Had almost canceled my pre-order for Saber Lily as she is quite expensive, but am glad I kept my order for she’s absolutely gorgeous, superb quality and finish, a stunning figure worth every extra penny.

Took a quick snapshot of her still boxed, though looks like I’ll have to invest in a decent lighting rig. Will do a full photo review of her another time, but you can catch good reviews of Good Smile Company’s Saber Lily from meronpan, lightningsabre and icie.

Moeyo, AkibaHobby and Hobbystock all report on the Chara Hobby 2009 (キャラホビ2009) event held this weekend, where many figures are showcased by different figure creators like Max Factory, Kotobukiya, Alter,… including a sneak peek at some new prototypes.

Most interesting is the revelation by Good Smile Company of their “K-ON!” Nakano Azusa nendoroid figure.

Good Smile Company had previously already shown the finished version of the Mio and Yui nendoroids, as well as prototypes of Ritsu and Tsumugi.

Wondered about an Azusa nendoroid and quite excited to see it will indeed be made. Can’t wait to see the finished and fully painted version.
