Dawn winter landscape

Had quite a bit of snow fall here these past days and while it’s inconveniencing for safe road travel, the winter landscape can create terrific photo opportunities.
Having read early morning and sunset are often the best times to do landscape photography, headed out at dawn yesterday and walked to the nearby fields.
Set up my tripod and Canon 450D to snap a few photos, had the 100mm macro lens already mounted on and chose not to switch to the 18-55mm kit lens as I felt the macro lens would produce sharper results, even though landscape photography is not its intended purpose.

Gummi Bear macro

Passing through the isle that contained candy and other sweets in the supermarket a while ago, picked up a small pack of Gummi Bears.
Attracted more by the bright, lively colors than the promise of a sweet culinary sensation, took the opportunity to snap a few photos of the Gummi Bears.
Love how a macro lens can capture details you might else miss with the naked eye, just look at the amazing texture of the candy’s gelatinous surface.
Another advantage of such near transparent gelatin based candy is how light shines through and can create nice color effects, here a red one shines through the yellow.

Autumn leaves

Although autumn is nearing its end already, wanted to share a few photos I made of some leaves on a surprisingly sunny day a while ago.
秋がもうすぐ終わるね、冬が来てるよ。
Made these photos in the early morning, although the skies were already quite blue, the sun was still low enough on the horizon to have a typical atmospheric light that cast pronounced shadows.
Adore the effect it created throughout the trees, accentuating the leaves that mixed yellow, red and green color tones.

Had already shown a few photos made of some Orchids before, still had these few to share of some Orchids in a flower arrangement set that I photographed shortly after getting the100mm macro lens for my Canon DSLR.
Gained more experience since making these but still glad with how they turned out, especially the first and third photo which have nice colors, very faithful and neither too under- or oversaturated.
Have been reading the photography guidebook “Understanding Exposure” by Bryan Peterson, found it quite interesting for an amateur like myself and helps understand some of the important basics.

Flower and leaves

Still had these snapshots around of flowers and leaves taken on a warm, sunny day.
It’s been a lot cooler here these past days so alas it looks like summer season is over, luckily these photos do remind me of the soothing warm sun rays of this year’s summer.
As usual, took these photos using the Canon 450D, equipped with Canon’s EF 100mm f/2.8 macro USM lens.
Because the macro lens can capture so much detail that often gets lost when downsizing, again chose to include a crop out of a section of these photos, so you can have a better look at some of the minute details.
