Kantoku C76 ‘5年 Memorial’ review

Next to Tony Taka’s “Collect 1” artbook, the C76 release “5年 Memorial” of renowned artist Kantoku is one of the Comiket books I’m most enthusiastic about.
From the circle “Afterschool of The 5th Year” (5年目の放課後), Kantoku is an artist whose style I immediately adored after spotting the first individual illustrations on assorted sites.

Just under 60 pages, the full color book is larger than the A4 size and has sturdy cover pages for a soft cover book.
Paper quality is excellent, each page feels thick and solid, the print is very crisp and thanks to the slightly mat paper there is little reflection or glare, except from darker color areas.

C76 loot has arrived

Terrific surprise today, my Comiket 76 artbooks finally arrived!
Had previously mentioned the four C76 items I was lucky enough to acquire, Kantoku’s “5年 Memorial” and Tony Taka’s “Collect 1 T2 Art Works” full color artbooks, as well as Goto-P’s “放課後フオトグラフ” color illustration doujin and Mahiru Izumi’s “みおラブ” black and white doujin.

Sifted through each of them and am very glad I bought these books, they’re all absolutely amazing with terrific art, even the ero doujin is surprisingly excellent.
Am pleased with the deputy service quality by Shopping Mall Japan, they responded swiftly to inquiries, packed the items securely with each book in it’s own zip bag and shipped them out timely.
Alas their good service ethics were not mirrored by customs who saw it fit to hold on to my parcel for over seven business days!
You can look forward to detailed reviews of these great artbooks soon!
Hunting for Comiket 76 books

Even though Comiket 76 was held over a week ago, Yahoo! Japan Auctions is still in a frenzy with C76 books, doujins and other goods up for auction to the highest bidder, and prices can soar quite high.
Thanks to fellow otaku icie from Hunting the Elusive who made a terrific three part Comiket 76 primer, had a good idea of which artist was going to release what type of book or other goods set at the event.
Immediately knew I had to get the C76 release of Kantoku from 5年目の放課後 (Afterschool of The 5th Year), a 60 page full color illustration book titled “5年 Memorial”.
While Kantoku’s Comiket releases are always appealing, the significantly higher page count and title suggesting this could be a book compiling Kantoku’s best work, just couldn’t miss out on this one, so immediately grabbed one of the sets on Yahoo! Japan Auction.

Kantoku does yuri
August 1, 2009 at 4:13 pm | In Kantoku | Leave a CommentTags: Afterschool Of The 5th Year, Kantoku, yuri
Spotted this lovely illustration by artist Kantoku from the circle “Afterschool of The 5th Year” (5年目の放課後), known for many terrific art creations.
It struck me not only because it is as usual a brilliant display of Kantoku’s wonderful art style but because it has a very cute, yet still innocent yuri atmosphere to it.
Apparently the characters might be from the “Shinkyoku Soukai Polyphonica” (神曲奏界ポリフォニカ) franchise but alas am not very familiar with it so not sure who they are.
Haven’t seen the anime adaptations either. Did any of you seen them, are they any good?
Well, it’s not the first time Kantoku draws girls getting frisky. Can only hope to see more of such wonderful creations from this great artist soon.
Kantoku C75 artbook “Check x Check”

For C75, artist Kantoku from the circle “Gonenme No Houkago” (5年目の放課後, aka “Afterschool of The 5th Year”) released an artbook titled “チェック× チェック” (“Check x Check”).
Focusing on girls dressed in checkered pattern clothing, the doujin contains several amazing full page illustrations, multiple pages of pencil sketch art and even a guide on how some of the checkered patterns were created.

A very nice artbook, the full page illustrations in it are gorgeous but I also quite enjoy the pencil art in it, which includes pencil art versions of the full page color illustrations as well as other ones. Amazing to see how some artists can already create such cute art without any use of color.
