Butterfly photos

Had many days with terrific weather the past month and during a sunny afternoon on one of those gorgeous days, spotted a large butterfly fluttering around.

Wondered if it would set down anywhere so went ahead and grabbed my camera to see if I might be able to snap a few photos of it.

Sure enough the butterfly soon started feeding on the flowers in a nearby flowerbed and it didn’t seem to mind at all having its picture taken, but just quietly sat there allowing me to get very close and take several photos of it.

Don’t usually see them that big over here, you can have an approximate idea of its size by the plant identification tag card in the background.

Incredible how beautiful a butterfly’s wings are, when one touches them it seems as if they turn to dust which is actually the scales rubbing off the wing itself.

Not the best of backgrounds seeing it’s a plain garden table and such, but didn’t want to miss this photo opportunity.

Didn’t do too bad for having made these shooting freehand. Like before, used my Canon Eos 450D with the EF-S 18-55mm F 3.5-5.6 IS kit lens.
Might head to a photography store to check out some other lenses one of these days.

Funny thing about butterflies… as a whole they all look awesome cute and fluffy… but if you look at each piece by itself, the face, the body, the legs, its like a pre-made creature for a horror film :p
