Leaves under the evening sun
Was really beautiful weather here yesterday, had thought of visiting a park, forest or other venue with friends to practice and enjoy some photography together with our DSLRs but alas couldn’t due to work.
Towards the evening, the sun was already low on the horizon and cast beautiful light, different compared to day time sunlight, it creates a whole new atmosphere when taking photos.
Remembered the advice of other photography aficionados like Michael Flux and Anonymous Object to try and make photos every single day to gain experience, so took out my Canon 450D and just snapped a few photos of leaves basking in the evening sun.
Shot everything freehand with the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 macro USM lens, which is always equipped with a polarizing filter and hood.
Might offer that these shots are not real macro shots since taken from further away, so my Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens might have done the job too, but I really want to practice with the macro lens as much as possible since it’s more challenging to use.
These images are actually from a small Japanese Maple tree, but looks like it’s not in great condition. Most leaves seem to have leaf burn, those withered edges or spots.
According to what Google tells me, leaf burn is common if the plants are under watered, over watered or have too much fertilizer.
Will see if it can be nursed back to health, though advice from those knowledgeable about plant care is welcome.
Above is just a random photo of a gravel path nearby taken the same evening because I liked the way the low sun’s light played with the varied colors of the different small stones.
There’s a definite warmth in that sunlight.
Couldn’t resist to snap a photo of this small lone flower in the middle of a large bush, turned towards the sun as if looking with melancholy at the last rays of light that would shine that day.
