Sazanami Cherry

June 25, 2010

While looking if a new chapter of Kozue Amano’s excellent manga “あまんちゅ!” (Amanchu!) was out yet, spotted the first chapter of a new manga by Kamiyoshi titled “さざなみチェリー” (Sazanami Cherry).

Was curious so checked it out and after reading this first chapter, am looking forward to see more chapters of “Sazanami Cherry” appear and witness how the story between Ren and Kazuhiro unfolds!

Starting off with a short introductory chapter of about 10 pages, the story dives right into the action by showing us high schooler Migiwa Kazuhiro nervously confessing his love to his crush, Takano Ren.

When Ren agrees to date Kazuhiro, the young boy is ecstatic but soon hears Ren’s earth-shattering statement that she is in fact male.

It’s a trap! Much like the deviously cute Aikawa Kizuna from the hilarious manga “プラナス・ガール” (Prunus Girl), Ren seems to be a very convincing cross-dresser which leads to Kazuhiro’s predicament.
Am looking forward to more of “Sazanami Cherry” as it might turn out to be as funny and entertaining as “Prunus Girl”, which has been an excellent story so far.

Although in “Prunus Girl” Aikawa’s gender is shrouded in mystery and next to comic relief also the source of a deeper plot involving the machinations of love and gender, it might be that “Sazanami Cherry” goes in a different direction. Will it be more of a comedy or ecchi manga? That remains to be seen.

Even though the art of “Sazanami Cherry” isn’t particularly novel but of the more commonly seen styles, its still very cute and drawn more than well enough to be satisfactory.

Actually noticed that next to yuri centric posts and series coverage, have been making quite a few about traps recently. But one must admit, who could resist beauties like Ren, Hideyoshi or Aikawa?

Interesting. Though I wonder why the trap scene is so oriented towards male on male. I don’t see anything wrong with it but always wonder why traps don’t go for girls and do some sort of “yuri” type of thing XD I guess I’ve taken a (non-sexual) liking to some androgynous characters as of late though. I sort of like being left to wonder rather than being told the gender, but I guess it wouldn’t work very well that way if it was ecchi. I do wonder if traps are as big in the 3D world in Japan as they are in the 2D world.

An interesting observation. Personally considering my interest in yuri anime/manga I would like to see more trap stories with the male x female ratio where the male poses as a female leading to a yuri centric pairing that isn’t really yuri. Somewhat like in “Maria†Holic”.
No idea about 3D traps though I’d rather not want to find out I guess. My interest in yuri, traps and such lies purely in the realm of anime/manga stories because they often make for more interesting stories.

You don’t know the power of the dark side… XD
No, I just have exreme denial skills when it comes to traps. =P
