Goto-P C78 doujin ‘Houkago Photo Club 2’

September 11, 2010

Back when artist Goto-P released ‘放課後フオトグラフ’ (Houkago Photo Club) at C76, splurged on getting that “K-ON!” themed doujin which proved to be a nice book full with lovely illustrations featuring the けいおん girls.

At the past Comiket 78 edition, Goto-P from the circle Mizuki-chan Club released a sequel of sorts to that doujin, ‘Houkago Photo Club 2’, another “K-ON!!” centric book.

While I did lament the fact Azusa was entirely absent in the first ‘Houkago Photo Club’, it’s great to see she’s included in quite a few illustrations of this ‘Houkago Photo Club 2’.

As such couldn’t help myself but to kick off this post with an illustration of the cute twin tailed guitar player in swimsuit, capturing that summer feeling.

This second book features the same characteristics as the first, just under twenty pages of all color illustrations of which most are full page spreads and other pages showcase landscape oriented images or a collage of several illustrations with a cork like background print, as if they were photos pinned to a board.

Nice to see such an excellent illustration of Ritsu, rendered in her school uniform with sports jersey and bag. Goto-P seems to like her character, for he included some terrific works of her, of course one portraying her alongside Mio wasn’t omitted.

Max Factory will actually release a PVC scaled figure of the light music club drummer in this attire, a look that suits her well.

Adore this image of Tsumugi in a yukata, showing a bright smile while she’s having fun at a summer festival.

Typical for Goto-P are the subdued, soft colors which give all images an atmosphere, similar look as if they were paintings. While most are also very bright and light, they’re not too vivid or saturated.

Of course an image fitting for Yui where she’s enjoying a sweet soft ice, perfectly capturing that summer atmosphere and the aloof guitar player’s sweet tooth!

You can always check out Goto-P’s homepage for more of this artist’s work.

    Am ashamed to say I haven’t, the Kantoku book is most tempting but I indulged on some photography gear and needed a new mobile so used up my budget. ^^;;

    Oh wow, I love these illustrations, especially the Azusa and Mio one. The colorings are beautiful. It almost has a hazy watercolor hue to it.

    Just awesome art. My favorites have to be Azu-nyan and Ritsu, who looks particularly well!

    It’s one of the things I like the most about Goto-P’s style, the subdued colors, love the way you described it actually.
    @Sergio
    In the first book Goto-P also included some great art of Ritsu who at that time in the first anime season wasn’t getting much attention from artists.
