MM!

October 3, 2010

One of the series I was curious to sample this fall season is light novel turned anime “MM!” (えむえむっ!). Did have reservations about the base plot premise of the series which revolves around high school boy Sado who wrestles with being a masochist.

After seeing the first episode, must confess these reservations haven’t subsided yet. Really enjoyed the episode and laughed quite a bit, but will the masochist plot be able to carry the series during its entire run?

From the first minute, was instantly smitten on that lovely dark haired, blue eyed beauty voiced by Rina Satou, who also voices Kaoru in “Amagami SS” and Mikoto in “To Aru Kagaku No Railgun”.

As viewer, could only be swept away along with Sato’s blossoming feelings of love at this shy beauty who visits the convenience store where he works every day.

To dream away with fluttering hope when that day he clasp her delicate hand and witness Sato hear her speak… in the all too familiar voice of his very much male best friend Tatsukichi.

It’s a trap! Is it cruel fate, the onset of a fetish or just my luck? The only girl in the episode that looked genuinely cute, more so than the bit stereotypical Mio, Yuuno, and Michiru turns out to be a trap!

Oh well, I can only hope we get to see lots more of Shihori-hime then… guess this series might turn out to provide this season’s trap dosage.

Enjoyed this first episode and will keep on watching this series, but am not sure about the rather typical violent tsundere Mio, though she is voiced by Taketatsu Ayana who voices Azusa in “K-ON!!”.

Some other excellent seiyuu in this series are Horie Yui who voices Yuuno and Tanaka Rie who voices the school nurse Michiru, while Sato is voiced by Fukuyama Jun of Lelouch from “Code Geass” fame.

Nonetheless, the series promises plenty of good entertainment, will see how future episodes turn out.

There’s a few traps every season. I didn’t expect that at all though.
