Sisters

October 5, 2010

Have been quite satisfied with the Canon 50mm prime lens I recently bought and its performance, especially for Dollfie Dream ball jointed doll photography it proves to be a terrific lens.

With new glass to play around with, got up to some more DD photo shenanigans and want to share some of the latest shots made of Yoko and Shizuko.

Shizuko and Yoko

Posed Shizuko and Yoko together to convey a sisterly atmosphere. Yoko easily fits the older sister look not only thanks to the ample DDDy body shapes but high heel shoes also make her conveniently look taller.

In contrast, Shizuko looks more fragile, serious from most angles, an aura that fits her well as the younger sister character.

Sisters

Used a not very ideal combination of warm temperature light saver bulbs and fading daylight for lighting in these photos so had to adjust the white balance in Lightroom afterwards.

Still need to set up and test the value flash set I recently acquired and see how it works out, it should prove more efficient to get better white balance and more whole lighting.

Shizuko and Yoko

Love the soft and dreamy look the 50mm f/1.4 prime lens achieves wide open.

Got the impression it also captures color a bit differently compared to my 15-85mm lens, it definitely seems to render shots a bit brighter at the same aperture.

Yoko

Had to include solo shot of Yoko in that pose with her jacked dropping down, baring her shoulders which creates a cute yet sassy look.

The CoolCat outfit DDII M bust Shizuko is wearing should also fit Yoko’s DDDy body type but am keeping it on Shizuko for now.

Shizuko

Took other new photos of Yoko and Shizuko just last weekend, will try to upload those sometime soon.

You can always see more Dollfie Dream photography on Flickr.

    2 DD daughters assuming docking position or back to back is the perfect job for a 50mm prime on a DX frame! Love the shots~ So far I have been alternating between the 50mm for portrait and 35mm for family photo :3

    Thanks. When’s your Yui getting some more DD companions? ^_~
    @Wolfheinrich
    Glad you like the photos. 50mm so far is fine for me since I can manage that working distance. Can always switch to the 15-85mm if I need wide angle.
    @tsunchan
    Am quite pleased with the 50mm so far so what better than to get behind the camera and use it? ^^

    Yui will have definitely have a companion in the future. In fact, she may have two, but unfortunately probably not for several more months ^^;

    Photos look good. I caution you with the flash. Unless you have a good diffuser (a tissue could work) or are able to bounce it off the ceiling or wall, the flash will really wash out their fair skin, and reflect of their glossy eyes. Keep it up though.

    @Michael A. Ruka
    Thanks. True, however the studio flash set I got has a softbox and an octobox, will no doubt bounce the third flash so I hope it will work out well.

    The second shot contrasts the girls’ personalities really well: Yoko’s confidence and Shizuko’s shyness. Lovely!
