Anime winter season 2010-2011
Not too long anymore now before the anime fall season will come to an end. Going over the series that will start this winter season must say I am unfamiliar with most series’ originating material, be it manga, light novels or other.
While several series piqued my interest, most do not really especially stick out save a few, so plan on sampling and deciding after the first few episodes if they’re to my liking.
Definitely checking out “Freezing”, the anime adaptation of the action packed Korean Manhwa drawn by Kim Kwang Hyun. While it has romantic comedy elements and is full of shapely maidens, it often is rather dark, with lots of bloodshed, gore and fierce battles. Am kind of hoping the anime will be more light-hearted.
Thinking about picking up “IS: Infinite Stratos” for it promises solid mecha action and harem silliness. Such a show can always provide a weekly dosage of ecchi fun mixed with over the top action.
The other series I have some prior knowledge of is “Onii-chan No Koto Nanka Zenzen Suki Janain Dakara Ne”, having read part of the manga by Kouichi Kusano. Wonder if the anime adaptation will be as funny and interesting?
Am curious what “Rio – Rainbow Gate” will be like, considering it’s a show created around Rio, a character from Tecmo’s pachinko games. Cannot deny though that Rio’s character design looks very appealing, especially the many illustrations of her drawn by Koutaro (こうたろ、Pixiv).
The subdued color palette and character designs of “Fractale” are intriguing. “Hourou Musuko” seems promising, its promotional images seem to share a similar styling as “Fractale” but it might just hold some trap shenanigans too.
“Yumekui Merry”, “Gosick” and “Dragon Crisis!” are two other shows I will sample, will see what their first episodes are like.
Plan to check out “Wolverine” too, considering the currently airing “Iron Man” series from Marvel’s anime project manages to keep me entertained each episode and has already seen a few appearances of Wolverine.
As far as OVA and OAD’s are concerned, am mostly looking forward to the “Kara No Kyoukai: Epilogue” that will be bundled with the Blu-Ray set as I absolutely love the “Kara No Kyoukai” movies, so more of this stellar series will no doubt be terrific and in HD to boot.
Considering the Blu-Ray box is slated to have English subtitles included, do hope to purchase it, but its price tag is just fearsomely high.
Besides that haven’t really seen many OVA announcements that capture my interest save perhaps for “Mirai Nikki” and “Yuri Seijin Noako-san”.
Will of course keep up with continuing OVA’s such as “Queen’s Blade Utsukushiki Toushi-tachi” and “Black Lagoon: Roberta’s Blood Trail”.
What’s on your winter ‘to watch’ list?
“Onii-chan No Koto Nanka Zenzen Suki Janain Dakara Ne” sounds kind of like a siscon anime. I hope it isn’t though.
Freezing, Gosick and Wolverine are definitely on my list. Can’t wait to see how they turn out.
@Valence
From what I’ve read of the manga, it’s more a brocon story as Nao is obsessed with Shuusuke, but he doesn’t reciprocate her romantic feelings. To Shuusuke, Nao is his sister, regardless if they’re related by blood or not.
Ooh Freezing? That’s surprising @_@! here’s hoping for Onihime VS to get same treatment too ^_^
@Devastator001
Yeah, am curious though if the Freezing anime will be a s bloody and full of epic battles as the manga or if they’ll focus more on the harem/romantic comedy elements.
The third Koihime Musou OVA is due out on February 2nd, and I’m wondering if they’re still on the island from the second OVA?
@FinalAvalanche
Am not sure. Guess we’ll have to wait and see! ^^
Definitely only IS! xD
