Focus on Shizuko

April 14, 2011

Recently introduced Dollfie Dream Kyouko, who being a new addition has understandably been the main subject to appear in front of my camera lens as I enthusiastically took photos whenever spare time allowed it.

However, have not forgotten about Shizuko, who has had her own share of photos taken, next to shots snapped of her together with Kyouko.

Always adored how from specific angles, Shizuko has a definite fragile aura as if she were as delicate as the petals of a flower.

With only a white zipper hoodie and a CoolCat patterned white body stocking Shizuko’s outfit is very simple here, shifting focus onto the photo’s overall atmosphere and composition.

Blue gaze

Had an afternoon with terrific lighting pouring in through the window which created the perfect conditions for some nice Dollfie photography.

Used a plain home made reflector to bounce some light back though may opt to invest in a proper reflector.

I look at you

Taken indoors with soft natural light, actually wasn’t happy with how the original Raw of this shot turned out.

Colors and the overall feel did not sit right but instead of abandoning the photo, applied a preset filter for this alternate effect.

Bare shoulders

Although at first glance they may seem similar, Shizuko’s customized Volks DDH03 head and Kyouko’s customized Volks DDH02 type head each have unique facial features, look and personality.

Thinking of you

私の大切なお姉ちゃんたちはどこですか。寂しい… 鏡子お姉ちゃん会いたい。

Shame that sometime with Shizuko’s DDH02 head sculpt the neck seems a bit long due to the small chin.

The flower and the girl

The preset used in Adobe Lightroom to achieve this effect is a “300” movie style preset which can be downloaded for free online.

Quite like how different those shots are in terms of atmosphere, lighting and color from the photos of the other series seen here.

Reaching out

Sometimes the Dollfie’s eyes can seem to be not very lively because of shadows which for brightly colored eyes like Shizuko’s that have less black pupil area is not ideal.

A simple trick one can use is the adjustment brush in Adobe Lightroom to increase the exposure or brightness just for the eye area.

Cross over heart

Have more photos of DD Yoko, Shizuko and Kyouko coming soon, so hope you look forward to seeing them.

    Gorgeous Shizuko was gorgeous… :0
    I especially liked how you played around with the lighting and the atmosphere each pic gave off.
    hmm..this post yet again reminds me to invest more time and money on the photography side rather than just taking random shots with hardly any editing^^;

    Thanks. ^^
    Ah, well still have much to learn myself. For each good photo here there were plenty of failed ones. Gradually started using Lightroom more, didn’t use it much when I started but it’s most useful when shooting Raw.
    In the end, what matters most is enjoying photography. ^^

    Been using Lightroom for almost a year, most pleased in the noise reduction filter.

    I never thought that a wallpaper would be able to provide such a nice backdrop for these pics.
    I have respect for you DD Peeps that you know how to pose the girls.I have a mighty hard time to do that ^^;;;

    It’s been a life saver for me in noise reduction as the 450D is entry level after all and doesn’t handle noise all that great.
    Am not quite there yet either, try and pick stuff up from other DD owners. The best poses and angles also depend on the DD though, Shizuko doesn’t shoot well from up angles.
    It’s a tiny spot in a corridor where the light hits just right during the afternoon when it’s sunny. Alas it’s pretty small spot.
