The world according to Ikeda Chizuru

August 27, 2011

Much like the world according to Ikeda Chitose, the world as seen through the delusion prone eyes of Chizuru is a yuri world. Spiced up with the added fetish that Chizuru has plenty of yuri delusions about her own sister Chitose!

With an unexpected and not entirely believable plot twist, the latest episode of “Yuru Yuri” introduced Chizuru, the before unseen and unspoken of twin sister of student council member Chitose.

Like her sister, Chizuru needs but take off her glasses to indulge in yuri delusions which cause her to drool uncontrollably, whereas Chitose suffers endless nosebleeds.

Next to this penchant for yuri and over the top infatuation towards her own sister, Chizuru’s personality is surprisingly the polar opposite of Chitose, for she is silent, rough, even cold towards others.

It was quite a joy to see such a character with deadpan comebacks, insults and a definite bite, take part in the else more sugar coated interaction between the girls in “Yuru Yuri”. Even Sakurako and Himawari’s usual bickering is actually rather benign and a vehicle for yuri moments.

In fact Chizuru’s initial behaviour reminds me a bit of how rough Touko was with Yumi in “Maria-sama Ga Miteru”. Still wish the last anime season of that series would have included an epilogue to the Touko and Yumi petite soeur arc.

“Yuru Yuri” has been offering lots of good laughs, although must confess the previous brief Christmas arc episode was a let down, with the whole mixed ‘date’ event it had so much more potential which was left untouched, a shame.

Guess that illustrates “Yuru Yuri” is a steadfast as yuri comedy that won’t indulge itself in pursuing explicit yuri relationships between its characters but leave it all implied or playful to fuel comedy scenes.

Personally wouldn’t mind it getting more serious about some of the character pairings as I think they can successfully combine more serious character relationships with the more light-hearted comedy.

I’d like to see Yuru Yuri be more serious about some of the character pairings too. It’d give this little comedy a little more weight and sauciness.

It would, there’s enough potential for it, so don’t know why they don’t indulge in at least one serious pairing.
