Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai OAV

September 21, 2011

Although its anime adaptation will already start airing this October, an OAV episode was bundled with the recently released seventh volume of “僕は友達が少ない”, the light novel series written by Hirasaka Yomi and illustrated by Buriki.

Rather looking forward to the “Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai” anime and this OAV was a tasty appetizer making me anxious to see the full series!

Although it didn’t manage to feature anything shockingly alternative or novel in its brief ten minute playtime, the OAV does seem to give a proper impression of what the series itself may be like, and it promises to be a well animated fun harem comedy with plenty of cute maidens.

A few cleverly packaged teaser scenes help give a look at what the regular episodes will be like without confusing the viewer, and they also introduce us to the cast.

No doubt viewers will be struck by the similarity in the character animation style used here by AIC Build for “Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai” compared to the style seen in “Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko” by Shaft.

Buriki, the artist who created the character designs and various artworks for the “Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai” light novels also did so for “Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko”. It’s a welcome surprise to see AIC Build using a similar style to adapt Buriki’s original art, much like how Shaft translated the “Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko” original art style into anime form.

As expected, Itou Kanae and Inoue Marina’s voice work as Sena and Yozora respectively is quite a treat and their verbal banter will no doubt greatly entertain throughout the series run.

The rest of the voice cast is impressive as well, like Fukuen Misato who voiced Yoshika in “Strike Witches” is voicing the bespectacled Rika here. Or Iguchi Yuka who voiced Haruka in “The iDOLM@STER” and Subaru in “Mayo Chiki!” is now voicing Maria.

Feisty twin tailed Kobato is voiced by Hanazawa Kana, who previously handled roles as Susukihotaru in “Otome Youkai Zakuro”, Ruri/Kuroneko in “Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawai Wake ga Nai” and Kanade in “Angel Beats!”.

Can’t wait to see the full series run start!
