訪う…あなたが私のマスターか。I ask of thee: Art thou my master? And so the king of knights once again answers the call of the grail to fight.
Set in the same universe as Type Moon’s visual novel “Fate/stay night”, the light novel series “Fate/Zero” written by Gen Urobuchi from Nitroplus features the Holy Grail war that took place before the one in “Fate/stay night”.
Caught the first episode of the “フェイト/ゼロ” anime adaptation on Nico Nico Douga where each episode will be available to watch for free, including subtitles, on the Nico Nico “Fate/Zero” channel.
Was quite looking forward to this show and the first episode was really terrific, promising this might be an epic series, perhaps one the best this fall season?
The same studio that also animated Type Moon’s “Kara No Kyoukai” movies, ufotable delivers stunning, high quality animation. Sincerely hope they can keep up with this level of fluid and detailed animation for the rest of the series.
Perhaps it is due to the influence of collaborating with Nitroplus that the story in “Fate/Zero” feels darker, more gritty than that of “Fate/stay night” but reckon it may also be because “Fate/Zero” seems to forgo the traditional eroge element of a juvenile male lead trying to match with one of several candidate heroines.
While there are many characters with their own story and motivations, the plot mostly revolves around Emiya Kiritsugu, Kotomine Kirei and their feud in the midst of the grail war. Am sure that Saber will play a major role alongside those two main male protagonists.
There’s many tie-ins to “Fate/stay night”, hence having watched that series or being knowledgeable about its story may be a must for one to easily follow “Fate/Zero”.
Nonetheless, this extra long first episode spends plenty of time introducing the main characters and the machinations of the various factions involved in the grail wars, as well as its concept of masters and summoned servants.
Looking forward to the next episode! After such a great start, have even higher hopes for this show than before and recommend it to all.
