Tamayura ~hitotose~

October 6, 2011

おかえりなさい~ The feeling of coming home again definitely is the emotion I felt while watching the first episode of “Tamayura ~hitotose~”. Greatly enjoyed the start of other fall season series like “Shinryaku!? Ika Musume” or “Fate/Zero”, but this show really managed to strike a chord.

Based on the original OVA “Tamayura” by Sato Junichi of “Aria” fame, this lovely slice-of-life story with a photography theme now gets the full season television series treatment.

One of the regrets I had about the original OVA was that due to its four episode limit, it lacked the necessary time to make you fall in love with its characters and become as enchanting as Amano Kozue and Sato Junichi’s masterpiece “Aria”.

No doubt “Tamayura ~hitotose~” will succeed here and make viewers fall in love with its unique characters, the lovely background setting of Takehara city in Hiroshima, Japan. Plus, the additional focus on photography appeals to me, considering my interest in photography.

Discovering happiness in everything, enjoying the passing days with your friends, growing as a person and in your photography, rekindling the memories of a beloved family member who passed away are some of the themes in “Tamayura ~hitotose~”.

From the exquisite detail in Fuu’s camera being a vintage Rollei 35 S viewfinder film camera, the lovable characters and their daily antics, to the mesmerizing scenery in Takehara, this series feels much like great slice-of-life shows such as “Aria” or “Sketchbook ~full color’S~”.

The voice cast is quite a treat! Taketatsu Ayana voices Fuu, she previously did characters like Azusa in “K-ON!”, Kirino in “Ore No Imouto Ga Konna Ni Kawaii Wake Ga Nai ” or Mio in “MM!”.
Photographer Riho who befriends Fuu is voiced by Erino Hazuki, who was Akari in “Aria”. Fuu’s friend Chihiro is voiced by Kotobuki Minako, she previously voiced Tsumugi in “K-ON!”.

Kaoru is voiced by Asumi Kana, who also voices Poplar in this season’s “Working’!!”. The energetic Norie is voiced by Iguchi Yuki, she previously voiced Index in “To Aru Majutsu No Index” and Subaru in “Mayo Chiki!”.

Kaoru’s sister Sayomi is voiced by Ohara Sayaka who voiced Alicia in “Aria”, Selvaria in “Valkyria Chronicles” and Yuuko in “XXXHolic”.

All series I’ve sampled so far promise to be terrific hits but definitely am most partial to “Tamayura ~hitotose~”, a series not to be missed by fans of the slice-of-life genre or those of you looking for a great show to watch. Fans of the OVA will like how this first episode featured things that weren’t in the OVA.

Oh! An anime about photography. I was not aware of this. And it’s a nice, comfortably-paced slice of life series? I am definitely going to check this one out. Thanks for the preview 😀

It is, photography plays quite an important role in the main plot. Fuu picks photography (back) up as it brings her close to the memories of her father who was an avid amateur photographer. I’m sure you’ll love it. ^^

Reminds one a lot of “Aria” in how peaceful and enchanting the landscapes and scenery are.
