Anime winter season 2011-2012
Soon the new anime season will be upon us, judging from the list of upcoming series, am likely to watch less shows than during the autumn season which had quite a lot of good anime to keep up with every week.
Of course, will definitely watch “Amagami SS+ Plus”! Sequel to the first “Amagami SS” anime series, this second season will pick up and continue each heroine’s story arc from the first season. For a romantic comedy “Amagami SS” was surprisingly refreshing, especially with its omnibus format that focused on each heroine in turn, so I hope this sequel is just as good.
Another show simply can’t afford to miss is “Nisemonogatari”. Adapted from the same light novel series as the stellar “Bakemonogatari” anime and with studio Shaft once again in charge of the animation, this promises to be one of the season’s highlights.
Quite liked the original “Black★Rock Shooter” OVA with its ever so slight shoujo-ai undertone so am keen on seeing the upcoming BRS television series. Though do wonder about its advertised 8 episode length for it seems a bit short.
Although I watched the original when it first aired, will most likely check out the “Gundam Seed” HD remastered version. Considering I dropped the currently airing “Mobile Suit Gundam AGE” series as it failed to convince me, will need another dose of weekly mecha entertainment.
Now a decade ago when my interest in anime rekindled, “Onegai Teacher” and “Onegai Twins” were two romantic comedies I enjoyed watching, even if they look fairly outdated by now. Reading that the original creator of those shows is back with a new project titled “Ano Natsu de Matteru”, will definitely give it a try.
Am curious about a few other shows so plan on checking the first few episodes to see if they’re to my taste. With its base plot mentioning space pirates and school girl shenanigans, will sample “Mouretsu Pirates”, could be quite a fun show.
Also “High School DxD” could be an entertaining harem comedy but it could degenerate into the usual bland tripe so many of those type of series alas tend to become. With its promise of all girls’ school dormitory shenanigans, “Gokujyo-” warrants a look, it might provide some yuri comedy! At least, I hope it will.
Other series like “Rinne No Lagrange” and “Papa no Iu Koto wo Kikinasai” seem like they might be worth a watch.
What’s on your to watch list for the winter season?
Not really sure what I am going to watch yet. Age was dropped until more convincing storyline emerges from the rest of the story. I lost interest in following Fate/Zero after learning it won’t be airing the 2nd season until April… what’s the point of being up-to-date now? I ended up finding Ben-To being the most entertaining for me this past season. I did marathon Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere the other night, and yes because I find Horizon being hot XD. The first season of Amagami SS failed to capture my attention as the story is designed to resonate with younger folks . All that aside, Haruka senpai is hot though, in my opinion of course. Probably going to watch Lupin, Seed HD and sample Brave 10, Mouretsu Pirates, Senhime Zesshou Symphoger?
@Wolfheinrich
Can relate to your feelings about “Fate/Zero”, I watched weekly and it’s simply torture having to wait until April to see the rest! >_<
Really enjoyed "Ben-To" as well, was worried where this show would head to on a few occasions but it stayed true on its path of a fun, entertaining comedy with silly action.
"Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon" was a good series as well, though I think the single season format to begin might not be the best as the story actually only starts at the every end and with its plethora of characters and factions it's rather convoluted.
No "Nisemonogatari" for you? Perhaps reconsider as the first show "Bakamonogatari" was epic.
Daily Lives of High School Boys (Directed by the director of Gintama) and Another are my early favorites. Mouretsu Pirates and Area No Kishi are the sleepers. Highschool D X D and Gokujyo on the other hand…O.o
I didn’t know BRS is getting an anime adaptation. This should be super exciting! 8 episodes seem like an awkward number, but it seems doable if it’s just going to be a short series that focus mainly on visual experiences. Well, I’m definitely watching it.
@Justin
“Another” sounds pretty interesting. “High School DxD”… well, every season I try a few series hoping they’ll be good but they turn out to be bland harem tripe, like this season had “Maken-ki”…
@Yi
I loved the OVA so am pretty anxious to see what the anime will be like, it starts in February I think.
For me it’s High school DxD and Aquarion Evol :D. loved the original Aquarion despite it’s bittersweet ending ^_^.
Also might give the Symphogear a whirl since I did like the Ar Tonelico and seems it has a good premise 😕
My taste in anime has become so different, I’m not interested any of these. ;___; Nisemonogatari sort of interested but only because I liked Bakemonogatari. More excited about Spring season anime instead.
@Devastator001
I’ve never watched the original Aquarion, is it that good?
@Sammy
Really? Still, Bakemonogatari was/is pretty alternative in terms of (mainstream) anime.
Yeah. XD I want my AKB48 anime already! Spring hurry up!
@Smithy
Aquarion’s got a very catchy OP theme. Over all the story’s good though it does feel a bit rushed at the end. In a nut shell it falls under the super robot trope 😀
