Binbougami ga!

July 6, 2012

This show is absolutely bonkers! Had initially thought to include “Binbougami ga!” in the list of anime series to try out from the many new shows airing this summer season but did not do so as I already had plenty of other series to watch or sample.

Nonetheless, upon spotting the first episode had aired, decided to give it a try and was surprised by this oddball slapstick comedy full of absurd characters, scenes and events.

Adapted from the original manga by Sukeno Yoshiaki, “Binbougami ga!” is a supernatural comedy centered around the impossibly lucky & fortunate Sakura, who faces off against Momijo, a god of misfortune sent to bring the lopsided balance between fortune and misfortune back to normal.

Busty bombshell Sakura is voiced by Hanazawa Kana, who also tackled roles like Chiaki in “Mouretsu Pirates”, Charlotte in “IS: Infinite Stratos” and Ayase in “Guilty Crown”. Flat-chested deity Momiji is voiced by Uchiyama Yumi, she previously voiced Nagi in “A Channel”.

Quite enjoyed the first episode which was a no holds barred rapid fire of absurd situations and humor. If you enjoy this style of silly comedy, you should definitely give “Binbougami ga!” a try.

However, am unsure if I’ll follow the series entirely throughout the season as this type of comedy, somewhat similar in absurdity to for instance “Kemeko Deluxe”, is not my preferred style of comedy.
In the category of such alternative comedies, do enjoy shows like “Nichijou”, “Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru” or “Daily lives of High School Boys” far more.
