Rinne No Lagrange season 2
Back to Kamogawa! Enjoyed the first season of “Rinne No Lagrange”, a sci-fi anime centered around three girls each piloting a mythical mecha that are the key piece in an intergalactic conflict that descended upon the earth.
The show offered a perfect mix of slice-of-life school shenanigans, sci-fi battle action and character development in the growing bond between Madoka, Lan and Muginami’s who are vastly different characters.
In the background a more ominous plot looms, it had a handy cliffhanger conclusion in the first season without really wrapping anything up, but rather it set things up for this second season where the clash between the three girls’ diverging personalities, wishes and dreams will likely be a key element.
With Xebec and Production IG again at the helm for the animation, we’re treated to excellent visuals with cute girls, fluid mecha battles and sleek looking robots. The overall style is reminiscent of shows like “RD: Sennou Chousashitsu”, “Macross Frontier” or “Star Driver”.
All voice talents reprise their role from the first season. Ishihara Kaori voices Madoka, she voiced Kanna in “Ano Natsu de Matteru” and is quite busy this season, also voiceing Tsui in “Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse”, Mina in “Dakara Boku wa H ga Dekinai” and Konoe in “Kono Naka ni Hitori, Imouto ga Iru”.
Lan is voiced by Seto Asami who tackled roles like Chihaya in “Chihayafuru”, Yoshino in “Hourou Musuko” and also voices Konatsu in this season’s “Tari Tari”.
Kayano Ai voices Muginami, she previously voiced Inori in “Guilty Crown”, Isana in “Yumekui Merry”, Millia in “Last Exile ~Ginyoku no Fam~” and Mayaka in “Hyouka”.
Considering I liked the first season, will of course watch this sequel of which the first episode opens with a bang, showing us plenty of intrigue and conflict with Lan’s brother apparently up to no good with experiments on the Vox that threaten Lan’s health.
Muginami is still with the opposing faction and mercilessly attacks Lan, resulting to both girls coming to a clash on earth, each believing they’re protecting Madoka by fighting the other.
Adding to that Madoka’s own doubts that were budding since the closure of the first season, am looking forward to what will happen next and how it will affect these three girls and their unique bond.
Will Madoka, Lan and Muginami find each other once more, making the flower of Rinne bloom in hope and bring prosperity to earth? Or will they face each other in agony, bringing suffering and destruction?
Can’t wait for next week’s episode!
