Shinryaku!! Ika Musume OAD

The recently released twelfth volume of the “侵略!イカ娘” manga was bundled with a DVD that featured and all new episode of everyone’s favourite squid girl! It’s been nearly a year since the second season of the anime adaptation aired, hence was pleased to see more of Ika Musume’s crazy antics.

Really enjoyed this OAD made by studio Diomeda, who animated both full seasons as well. Having the same studio at the helm guarantees a consistent look and they’ve delivered good work here. While the overall look of “Shinryaku! Ika Musume” is rather plain, this no frills animation style fits this silly comedy just fine.

Perhaps the only downside is that the show’s typical three story arc, with each arc centered around a specific topic or gag doesn’t really allow it to stand out. In fact, personally felt that the story in its third part was rather weak. However, the full length seasons suffered from the same drawback.

All voice talents reprised their roles, even though some characters barely appeared. Main protagonist squid girl is voiced by Kanemoto Hisako, she also voiced Kanata in “So-Ra-No-Wo-To” and Asteria in “Rinne no Lagrange”. Fujimura Ayumi again voices Eiko, she previously voiced Misaki in “Kaichou ha Maid-sama” & Cecily in “Seiken no Blacksmith”.

Had such great laughs with this OAD, it makes me wish for a full third season of “Shinryaku!! Ika Musume”.
