Anime fall season 2012

September 22, 2012

Hard to believe the anime summer season is already nearing its end, several series have already wrapped up even. Personally felt there were plenty of terrific shows that aired this summer, but the fall season promises to bring us some excellent anime too.

Out of several sequels that are slated to air am especially looking forward to “Jormungand: Perfect Order”, the second season adapted from the “ヨルムンガンド” manga. The first season excelled with tons of thrilling action and a disturbing foray into the dark criminal world of arms dealing. Have high expectations of this second season and hope it will not disappoint.

“Robotic;Notes” is the anime adaptation of the visual novel by 5pb, who also brought us “Steins;Gate” & “Chaos;Head”. Was very impressed with “Steins;Gate” and the main theme of “Robotic;Notes” which focuses on robots and augmented reality sounds very interesting. Considering renowned studio Production IG is at the helm, this could be one of the best shows this season.

Definitely looking forward to “Girls und Panzer”, set in a world where battling in tanks is a traditional martial art it will centre around a group of girls and their school’s tank club. From the basic synopsis, seems this could be a something akin to “Upotte!” or a cross between “Strike Witches” and slice-of-life shows like “K-ON!”.

Two other sequels am going to check out are “Seitokai no Ichizon – Hekiyoh Gakuen Seitokai Gijiroku” and “Hayate no Gotoku! Can’t take my Eyes off You”. Though not sure how either will turn out.

Quite enjoyed the first season of “Seitokai no Ichizon” when it aired in 2009, but am a bit apprehensive about this sequel because it’s animated by studio AIC and has a different character designer with Onoda Masahito, instead of the first season which was animated by Studio Deen and character designer Horii Kumi. Considering also that two characters will be voiced by different seiyuu, am a bit apprehensive.

Although it had regrettable slumps here and there, did enjoy both previous runs of “Hayate no Gotoku!”, it provided a fun weekly rendezvous filled with laughter. Did read that for this new series, it’s a new studio with Manglobe and another character designer with Kudo Masashi, so am not sure yet if this new incarnation of “Hayate no Gotoku!” will be up to par with the previous instalments.

Light novel adaptation “Shin Sekai Yori” sounds quite interesting, will sample this show as its setting of five children living in an idyllic future world that suddenly threatens to collapse seems like it might be a nice sci-fi adventure.

“Haitai Nanafa” looks like the kind of slice-of-life series that I am fond of, revolving around a happy-go-lucky girl and her family who become involved with spirits. Although there’s that supernatural element, the synopsis and character designs seem to suggest an innocent, cutesy show.

Will check out “Btooom!”, the adaptation by studio Madhouse of the “ブトゥーム” manga which sounds like it might offer a nice action packed ride and not unlike “Sword Art Online” seems a show with the theme of people being pulled from the real world into a game world.

Unsure if the upcoming “To Love RU Darkness” anime will be worth to watch. Must admit that I do follow the manga, which excels thanks to Yabuki Kentaro’s sublime art, yet often stands out in terms of ecchi content. But I was sorely disappointed by the first “To Love RU Trouble” anime so do fear this new adaptation might be sub par.

Other shows might check out to see if they’re worth following weekly are “Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun”, “Kamisama Hajimemashita”, “Teekyuu” and “Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo”.
The fall season also has quite a few interesting OVA and other DVD/BluRay specials slated for release that I will definitely watch.

Tell me, what will you watch this fall?

Might watch “Busou Shinki”, am not sure, I wasn’t too impressed with the OVA.
No idea what “K” will be about, might just sample it to see. ^^
