Tony Taka C83 ‘Recollect′ artbook
This past winter Comiket, artist Tony Taka published the ‘リコレクトT2 Art Works イラスト総集本’ book, which instead of his traditional doujin releases, is a follow up to the C76 ‘Collect 1’ artbook.
As its title suggests, ‘Recollect’ features illustrations that were already published in doujin books released at previous Comiket editions, including most of Tony’s dakimakura cover designs and some signature images.
Of course, being a collection of Tony Taka’s typical art works, many of the images contain nudity or are of explicit nature, making this a book for adults only.
Although ‘Collect 1’ already dates back to the summer of 2009, this new illustration collection book ‘Recollect’ does not only feature new material created since, but also contains some images that were already present in ‘Collect 1’ too.
With a 64 page count, ‘Recollect’ is a little over 10 pages smaller than the 76 page ‘Collect 1’, though I personally do not find the smaller page count or repetition of several illustrations all that bothersome.
Unfortunately, even though it has less pages, it does cost several hundred Yen more.
Must admit though that I am not very keen on the black gradient border used on the page edges to frame the artworks in. (This border was cropped out for the samples shown here.)
As it is an A4 sized book, much prefer they would have used the full page, edge to edge.
Luckily the book omits having any two page spreads, this does mean you will need to flip the book to properly enjoy landscape oriented illustrations like those showcased above, but that’s better than losing part of the image when spread over two pages.
Fans of Tony Taka’s wonderful art can still pick up this book at Toranoana, but stock may not last, so get it while you can.
All hail to Tony! I am looking forward to the new PSP game Shining Ark already.
@Wolfheinrich
Tony Taka’s art is heavenly! ^^
Wonder if they’ll also adapt the characters and story of Shining Ark into figures and an anime, respectively.
I do like 2 page spreads when done properly with enough excess on both pages so that nothing from the picture will get lost in the middle. Sadly many releases dont go that route
I do wonder how many of the 64 pages are actual Illustrations?
Always a bummer when you order an artbook and get a ton of interviews and other things with it .
@Blowfish
In Tony Taka’s ‘Collect 1’ and ‘Recollect’ nearly all pages are actual illustrations. There’s a brief one page note from the artist and that’s pretty much it as text type material goes.
