Mahou Shoujo Taisen
Also known as “Magica Wars”, this franchise which originally spawned from a variety show and already has several related game adaptations, gets the anime treatment with a two cour series of four minute long episodes by studio Gainax.
“魔法少女大戦” personifies each of Japan’s prefectures as a magical girl whose character design is determined though a contest on Pixiv. Considering the first three episodes only showed us one magical girl in action compared to large cast advertised the anime’s official website, seems that this series will comprised of multiple arcs, each arc focusing on one girl and the prefecture she heirs from.
Studio Gainax might just be perfect to animate such a silly magical girl series comprised of short episodes as their style is well suited to portray the silly shenanigans of the various girls.
Visually there are some similarities with their other works like “Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann”, especially in the styling of the background scenery and characters, the animation of magical girls though is sufficiently detailed.
Enjoyed these first few episodes of “Mahou Shoujo Taisen” and will keep on watching this comedy, especially since it only takes a few minutes anyway.
