Inu to Hasami wa Tsukaiyou

July 3, 2013

First opening episode I watched at the start of this new season is that of “Inu to Hasami wa Tsukaiyou”, an anime based on a light novel series written by Sarai Shunsuke which is also known as “Dog & Scissors” or “InuHasa”.

An oddball mystery comedy, quite enjoyed this first episode with its slapstick humor as well as the verbal banter between avid reader Kazuhito (who tragically died but is somehow reincarnated as a dog) and sadistic writer Kirihime.

Part of what made this a lot of fun to watch for me personally is Inoue Marina’s excellent performance as Kirihime. She previously voiced similarly feisty characters like Yozora in “Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai” or Matsurika in “Maria†Holic”.

Unfortunately was rather underwhelmed by the animation quality by studio Gonzo, which felt mediocre at best, the character design style visibly lacked consistency in some scenes. Surprising that for a new series its opening episode the studio doesn’t look like it pulled out all the stops.

Do wonder if the starting plot of Kazuhito’s death, the subsequent search for the culprit as well as his bond with Kirihime will be enough to carry the series along.

However, with other voice talents in the main cast like Itou Shizuka, Saito Chiwa and Asumi Kana along with Inoue Marina, have a feeling that alone might encourage me to see this show through to the end.
