Horo by Mahiru Izumi

Had already previously spoken about artist Mahiru Izumi (泉まひる, homepage nsfw) who created the art for the “Queen’s Gate – Mai Shiranui” (クイーンズゲイト 紅の忍 不知火舞) book and thought this time I’d mention some great illustrations of Horo from “Spice & Wolf”.

Above is the first illustration of Horo I saw by Mahiru Izumi and love how she is rendered in it, beyond any doubt Horo is the cutest wolf deity known to man.

Really adored Horo in “Spice & Wolf”, she was an interesting mix of character elements and thought seeiyuu Ami Koshimizu voiced her well.

With some artists their art style just clicks for me, tend to adore their work from the first illustration I see of them and Mahiri Izumi’s illustrations are always quite appealing.
Lovely signature style with nice color use and a very specific way the eyes are drawn.

To me it isn’t just about the cute girls (not entirely at least) but with anime art and artists it’s the vibrant colors and style that give the art and characters in it an ephemeral appeal because they possess an atmosphere filled with joy, color and lust for life that emanates from the page or screen and seems to radiate into your own life, adding color to your day.

Mahiru Izumi’s latest Horo art that currently also features on the artist’s homepage. How could one ever resist that cute and teasing expression?

For Comiket 74, Mahirutei released a “Spice & Wolf” doujin titled ‘Horon Hororon’ (ほろんホロろん) that you can find here.

This particular illustration of Horo was included in the doujin as a postcard.
What I especially like in this artwork is how Mahiru Izumi was able to render Horo as such that she doesn’t simply come over as enticing due to her nudity but is also irresistibly cute with her joyful and disarming smile.

Below image of Horo was used for the cover of the ‘Horon Hororon’ doujin.
A very nice doujin and love how both Horo and Lawrence come across in it, really spot on for Horo’s personality too.

Mahiru Izumi also draws a lovely C.C. And Yoko, will probably show some of those images later on.
