Smooth criminal Yoko

July 10, 2010

Recently having gotten the Tenshi No Sumika ‘Gangster Set’ for my lovely Dollfie Dream Yoko, of course couldn’t wait to see how the new outfit would look on her and soon did a complete photoshoot.

Made by Volks, this DDDy sized outfit fits her perfectly, although I did omit putting on the choker and chain belt included in the set as they didn’t suit her.

To complete the gangster look, posed her with two Dragon scaled Glock G17 replicas, which are the right size for a Dollfie Dream and can be ideally gripped by Yoko’s default gloved hands.

Had been looking for backgrounds to use for photography and liked the atmosphere of these old curtains that show some wear, and they sport a pattern of colors perfect to pose Yoko in front of.

Making it a leisurely and fun shoot, tried to experiment using different Image Styles, white balance and such. Am pleased how some combinations turned out, like this Canon “Clear” Image Style combined with a custom white balance that created a red effect.

By comparison, the same pose shot using the “Portrait” Image Style and a shutter speed of 1/160 compared to the longer 1/40. Managed to achieve the effect without any image manipulation in Photoshop.

Also tried using a normal white balance with the “Clear” Image Style and a long exposure time, combining overexposure with the increased contrast of this custom Canon Image Style.
It really suits the dark clothing offset against the white cuffs and Yoko’s fair skin, and also brings some punch into the background colors.

Love how Yoko looks in the Gangster outfit, has quite a lot of flair. Handy about the hat is that it allows me to fix her right bangs from covering her face, creating a different hairstyle compared to the look in earlier photos.

Another photo shot with the different Image Style and white balance, compared to the same pose shot with normal settings below. Was easily able to make such comparison shots because the Canon 450D camera was secured on a tripod and Yoko on a Volks doll stand.

The short boots included in the Gangster set allow her to stand firm enough, nonetheless didn’t want to risk a posing Yoko without the security of a doll stand or anything for her to lean against.

Tried to angle the camera and her leg to hide the stand as much as possible. This side shot also shows how this outfit accentuates the curvaceous lines of the DDDy body.

Recently saw the first episode of the “Black Lagoon: Roberta’s Blood Trial” OVA, which continues on the “Black Lagoon” series’ tradition of raw and gritty action in the depths of the criminal underground so felt inspired to try and capture some of that darker, depressing mood.

D_20100704_Yoko_SC_Clear_06_sml

Angled the head down to hide the smiling facial features and made the hair fall in front with thin strands as to make it seem ruffled, unkempt. The alternate photo style with its higher contrast accentuates the effect.

Ended up having Yoko hold the hat like that else the short skirt would create quite a blatant pantsu shot at this angle. Surely amateurs of such imagery may regret the missed chance, but a dark and solemn mood would not have worked out had her underwear been visible.

Quite pleased how this shot worked out, nicely creates the aura of a battered outlaw after a fierce gunfight, down but not out, trying to pick herself up to fight again.

Only included a fraction of the photos here, so if you’d like to see more, you can view them in the corresponding Flickr photo set of DD Yoko.

Those of you with interest in photography may like to hear I’ve now started to upload my photos in Jpeg format on Flickr, so you can view the Exif data.

    Some pictures are epic!
    Very nice idea because your Yoko ganster looks amazingly terrific, and the pictures where she’s without the hat reminded me to Enma Ai (Ok, just a freak comment ^^)

    Great photos!

    A cool outfit too, though something I wouldn’t normally be interested in (that, and none of my girls would really fit it properly XD).

    Loving the effects shots, how you describe them is exactly the feeling they give off.
    Don’t know if you could go anymore moody, say complete or near silhouette – could look quite cool.

    And I’m sure someone like Yoko would never go down without a fight, so as you say, down, but not out 😉

    Yay for Yoko Gangster. I need to do a shoot with the gangster set, I even got a machine gun recently to match it up 😀

    Haven’t watched “Hell Girl”, but do love the art I’ve seen of Enma Ai. Would certainly like to recreate that style but alas Yoko’s body curves are a bit too womanly to copy Enma Ai I’m afraid.

    When I saw the promo shots by Volks of this outfit I wasn’t interested at all either, but with it being DDDy sized and seeing some later shots by DD owners I ended up purchasing it. My ultimate goal is actually to create an office lady/teacher look.
    Glad you like them, might try and create some more of those dark and moody shots. ^^
    @Wolfheinrich
    A machine gun? Sounds quite promising! Can’t wait to see the results! ^^

    nice gangster look for Yoko and the double gun look really cool. i think Yoko’s gloves really add spice to this look. i think adding a miniature cigarette would be awesome.

    Even without her sniper of whatver she can be dangerous D:

    @sushi_n_sake
    That cigarette does look very nicely crafted and would add to a more Revy from “Black Lagoon” or Faye from “Cowboy Bebop” akin atmosphere. But Yoko doesn’t smoke. =P
    Opted to use Yoko’s gloved hands since their pose is perfect to hold then guns, her plain hands weren’t able to hold them.
    @Fabrice
    She’s a lethal babe!

    Ahhh those sexy,sexy guns are dangerous to me.
    Might make me think that Dollfies are nice.
