Anime summer season 2011
The new anime season is about to kick off! Usually take a look at the upcoming shows a few weeks before the new season season starts but this time am rather late in checking out the series slated to begin.
Being a fan of Masamune Shirow’s work and liking what Production IG did with the “Ghost In The Shell: Stand-Alone Complex” series, will definitely check out “Appleseed XIII”, the new adaptation of Shirow’s classic story. The first episode of “Appleseed XIII” apparently already aired on NicoNico, still have to see it though.
With such a title, cannot deny being intrigued by “Yuru Yuri”. While I have no idea if it will actually be a yuri series, the premise of four girls forming their own club in school reminds me of other terrific slice-of-life shows, definitely so with Taketatsu Ayana, Toyosaki Aki and Katou Emiri in the voice cast.
The overall plot premise of light novel adaptation “Mayo Chiki!” did not especially woo me but the fact main character Konoe Subara is a reverse trap automatically puts it on my to watch list. Hope it will be an excellent trap comedy.
Plan to watch light novel adaptation “Kami-sama no Memo-chou”, which based on the synopsis sounds like it is a modern era version of “Gosick” with its detective and reclusive girl elements.
What attracts me most to “Kami-sama no Memo-chou” though is the fact that Kishida Mel created the character art. Considering the previous series he did the character designs for are the epic “So-Ra-No-Wo-To” and terrific ongoing series “Hanasaku Iroha”, am certain this new series will be excellent as well!
Another series animated by Production IG is “Blood-C”, a new ‘Blood’ adaptation with original character designs and story by Clamp. With Clamp’s unique visual style backed by a solid studio this promises to be quite good so will check it out, even if supernatural vampire stories aren’t usually my genre.
Two other series that piqued my interest are “Kamisama Dolls” and “Ikoku Meiro No Croisée”, so will sample their first few episodes to see what they’re like. There is of course the second season of “Baka To Test To Shoukanjuu” which I will watch if not only for lovely trap Kinoshita Hideyoshi.
In terms of OVA’s, the “Black Lagoon: Roberta’s Blood Trail” series has just concluded with a powerful final episode. Will off course catch the “Maria†Holic: Alive” BluRay exclusive episode. Am curious about the “Mahou Sensei Negima!” movie, although I fell behind reading the manga and following the OVA’s.
What’s on your to watch list?
For Negima Movie the Magic world arc has enough material to fill the movie although the arcs not quite done yet. I’m guessing most likely it’ll cover the vs Jack Rakan part.

Seems like they’re releasing some new stuff to link the original QB character to the rebellion ones ^_^. Really like the Aneloette x Alleyne matchup 😀
Im in the same boat with “Kami-sama no Memo-chou” the art seems incredible, looking forward to getting round to watching the first 2 episodes, I also plan on following Natsume yuujin chou san and Usagi Drop this season, Blood is starting to grab my attention though.
Our lists differ so much!
I’m watching Ikoku Meiro No Croisée. It’s sooo pretty. I love it. Mawaru Penguindrum is also really good too. It’s showing a lot of promise in delivering a very interesting story. Lastly, Usagi Drop is just a huge heartwarming little thing.
Have yet to see Yuru Yuri. It should be pretty lovely too.
@Dave
Recently caught the first episode of “Kami-sama no Memo-chou” and it looks quite promising! “Blood-C” seems good too, loved how the first episode oozed that typical stylish look of Clamp designs animated by Production IG.
@Yi
Haven’t heard of “Mawaru Penguindrum”, but if you recommend it, shall have to check it out. Heard about “Usagi Drop”, might have to catch it as well.
So far my list is the same as Yi’s, I haven’t seen anything else yet but do plan to check some of these out.
@Persocom
Oh, well if “Mawaru Penguindrum” and “Usagi Drop” are on your watch list as well, then I’ll definitely have to check them out.
