Inu x Boku SS

January 28, 2012

An adaptation of the “妖狐×僕SS“ manga by Fujiwara Cocoa, hadn’t planned on watching the “Inu x Boku SS” anime, but upon recommendation of comrades gave this show a try.

Am enjoying the series so far, while its shoujo style elements aren’t my usual taste, the comedy, action and oddball characters have been very entertaining. And as was predicted, absolutely adore the character Nobara Yukinokouji!

Although lead character Ririchiyo may appear to be a typical tsundere whose cuteness is hammed up for all it’s worth, there’s more that meets the eye to her, for her tsundere appearance and verbal insults are a facade for her own insecurities.

Nobara’s visual design strikes dead center into my personal favorite character types, her yuki-onna form equally appealing. But looks aren’t everything, Nobara’s exaggerated demeanor and perverted behavior in fancying Ririchiyo & Karuta belie her kind personality.

The animation by studio David Production is fair to good, though it is apparent key scenes and close-ups get better visual treatment with increased details and lighting effects compared to the generic, wide angel scenes.

The irresistible Nobara is voiced by Hikasa Youko, she also voices Rias in this season’s “High School DxD” and previously voiced Mio in “K-ON!”, Houki in “IS: Infinite Stratos”, Shino in “Seitokai Yakuindomo” and Izumi in “Working!!”.

While some may be reminded of Kugumiya Rie when Ririchiyo utters typical tsundere lines, she is actually voiced by Hidaka Rina, who previously voiced Last Order in “To Aru Majutsu No Index” and Kaede in “Penguin Musume Heart”.

Hanazawa Kana voices Karuta, she also performed as Charlotte in “IS: Infinite Stratos”, Mayuri in “Steins;Gate”, Kobato in “Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai” and Nadeko in this season’s “Nisemonogatari”.

Am curious about the maid Chino, haven’t seen much of her in these first three episodes but her facial design and hair style make her into a Yui lookalike. The fact she is voiced by Toyosaki Aki who voiced Yui in “K-ON!” reinforces this impression.

Being disappointed in “High School DxD”, have decided to follow “Inu x Boku SS” instead. Now only to hope there will be plenty of airtime in each episode for Nobara and her shenanigans.
