Ooya-san wa Shishunki!

January 19, 2016

Started watching “Ooya-san wa Shishunki!”, the anime adaptation of the “大家さんは思春期!” four-panel manga by Minase Ruruu. Although am unfamiliar with the original manga, am confident this will be an excellent slice-of-life comedy.

Have good experience with similar anime whose episodes have a short running time such as “Aiura”, “Wakaba*Girl!” or “Inugami-san to Nekoyama-san”. An increasingly popular format, it seems to suit such comedies well.

While the core plot of a cute sailor uniform wearing middle school girl being the landlord at a small apartment complex might sound like it could be the plot of some ecchi anime, everything suggests that “Ooya-san wa Shishunki!” will focus on cute moments and comedy instead.

Even though the typical jokes and innuendo might not be far away considering cute girl Chi is flanked in the character line-up by Reiko, who’s the typical kind, motherly lady, am certain this will be a lovely comedy.

Animation by studio Seven Arcs Pictures is excellent, especially Chie is rendered with lots of care to make her seem as cute as possible and the overall visual atmosphere has a colorful but soft, low contrast look.

You can watch “Ooya-san wa Shishunki!” on Crunchyroll.
