Purple berries
November 20, 2010
A while ago, spotted a small bush which even though it had lost nearly all of its leaves, was nonetheless sporting lots of small purple berries.
Although the weather was rather overcast with gusts of wind, set up the tripod and mounted the macro lens on my camera to snap some photos of these lovely berries.
Have a few more photos of these berries on Flickr.

Fabulous colour. Do you know what the berries are? I’d like to grow them!
Poison. They haven’t been eaten by any wild creature. Try eating them and post the results – if you survive 🙂
Found them: BeautyBerries: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beautyberry
The berries are toxic because they contain Borneol: “is an eye, skin, and respiratory irritant; and is harmful if swallowed.”

Thanks! Checked your blog, some great shots on there. ^^

I shall respectfully decline to be the guinea pig for that experiment. ^^;; LOL. XD
Good find though. Am not sure exactly which species of Callicarpa it is, didn’t spot a tag still attached. Maybe the Murasakishikibu or Japanese Beautyberry?
Love the purple!!
This is a gorgeous shot.
