Gundam Seed HD Remaster

Having originally aired in 2002 & 2003, the “Mobile Suit Gundam Seed” anime was a successful and rather good mecha series that featured a potent new Gundam story, interesting characters and solid animation for its time.

Quite liked this show, even bought the R1 region DVD set by Bandai Entertainment back then. As such, was looking forward to the “Gundam Seed HD Remaster” project, hoping it would reshape this series with improved visuals to approach the level of recent shows like “Gundam 00”.

Unfortunately, the first episode has failed to impress in terms of improved visuals, in fact I was rather let down by this remaster version as it makes the animation look outdated and all flaws become painfully obvious.

In most scenes the animation does not look crisp but rather blurred or over filtered, whether that was could be due to the particular broadcast or file quality I cannot say. While I’m keen on seeing the rest and revisiting this solid Gundam series, am wondering if it might not be just as convenient to just watch the original on DVD.

Perhaps best to leave the ultimate judgment on this HD remaster until the first BluRay is out?
